IM2 - Idealism, Mindscapes and Mythology 2014, is a collection of paintings inspired in part by Xu Bing’s sculpture Phoenix, shown in 2012 at MASS MoCA. The paintings depict flight, movement, and freedom as the abstract forms twist, turn, and flow throughout the canvas. Each colourful form is layered one on top of another creating an array of new colours and imagined transparency. This is in direct contrast to the original sculpture, which is made from rough, rusted, discarded building materials.
